What we believe in
The mānuka plant has been used in traditional medicine for hundreds of years by Māori healers in New Zealand. In the last 20 years science has vindicated this use and moved manuka from the “alternative” category to mainstream medicine recognising the unique technology carried within this highly active botanical plant.
Mānuka honey is used widely for its topical skin benefits in a range of formats including wound dressing, first aid and skincare. Manuka Secrets uses the high percentages of the highest levels of UMF 18+ mānuka honey in its products to ensure these benefits reach the consumer.
To comply with our principal goal, all the ingredients in our products were selected for their beneficial properties and energy, as well as for their generally acceptable problem-free safety and toxicity profiles.
No synthetic or petrochemical derived ingredients are used in any of our products. This means absolutely NO: parabens, phenoxyethanol, formaldehyde, silicones, mineral oils, PEG, PPG, phthalates, synthetic colours and fragrances.
We use the largest percentage of ingredients to ensure efficacy, with all of our products extremely low in water and fillers for maximum potency.
No animal products or bi-products are involved, we do not test on animals or our bees!
Last but by no means least, only Natrue, (Belgium based 3rd party global natural certification) and BioGro (NZ Organic Certifying Organization) approved ingredients including preservatives and emulsifiers are used in our formulations.
Beautiful skin starts here.

Science of Manuka Honey
UMF MANUKA HONEY
UMF Manuka Honey’s unique properties include antibacterial and anti-inflammatory activity, acting as a significant humectant, a source of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals that assist the body’s own fight against MMP (free radical damage).
Manuka Honey supplies nutrients used in tissue regeneration. It contains all the minerals necessary for sustaining life plus a wide range of amino acids, vitamins, trace elements, and large quantities of sugars. The bees have done their work in converting these to fructose and glucose that are readily assimilated by the body.
Skin aging is caused by both chronological ageing (unpreventable) and photo aging (sun induced aging). The primary environmental factor that causes photo aging is UV irradiation from the sun. When the skin is exposed to sunlight the activity of a group of enzymes (matrix metalloproteinase MMP’s) is increased. This leads to the breakdown of collagen in the skin. Collagen functions to provide strength and resilience to the skin, so when it breaks down skin loses its firmness and wrinkles are formed.
Research indicates that plant derived phenolic compounds, such as those found within Manuka honey assist in inhibiting MMP’s activity thereby slowing the signs of aging.
Manuka Honey’s high antioxidant levels contribute to its efficacy to help aid in skin regeneration and reducing negative effect of damaging free radicals.
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring polysaccharide (carbohydrate) in the human body. Research indicates that the glucose present in manuka honey assists the body’s own synthesis of hyaluronic acid (HA).Hyaluronic acid has various functions of which one is to stimulate the production of collagen. Hyaluronic acid is also a significant humectant keeping moisture at the skins surface longer to protect against environmental damage and stress.
Manuka Honey contains a natural polyhydroxy acid (PHA) that helps maintain the skins protective acidic barrier and works with the slight acidity of your skin to help exfoliate naturally assisting those prone to eczema, dermatitis or dry skin. PHA’s are reported to be less irritating than AHA.

Natrue is a Brussels based international non-profit association committed to promoting and protecting Natural and Organic Cosmetics worldwide. Certification in New Zealand is provided by Bio-Gro, and Mānuka Secrets is one of only a few brands in New Zealand to achieve this world leading certification.
UMF stands for ‘Unique Mānuka Factor’. The UMF Honey Association has developed a global grading system to measure 3 markers that indicate the purity (Leptospermum Scoparum) and potency (Methylglyoxyl) of the mānuka honey used for Mānuka Secrets. Only mānuka honey sourced and produced in New Zealand can be UMF certified, so you can also be sure of the origin of your mānuka honey.
Mānuka is a bush native to New Zealand that is part of the Tea Tree family of plants. The oils and honey produced from the mānuka bush contain naturally very high antibacterial, anti-inflammatory & antioxidant properties in comparison to other honeys.
We use the highest potency UMF 18+ mānuka honey so consumers get guaranteed quality honey with chemical markers for purity, potency and provenance. Mānuka Secrets also has one of the highest levels of mānuka honey as an ingredient, where others only use very small doses and other ‘fillers’.
We recommend starting with one or two key products depending on your current skincare regime. The serum is a great addition to your night-care regime and can be easily integrated by simply applying after cleansing.
If you are transferring from non natural to natural we suggest you start with smaller amounts and increase as you feel your skin becoming accustomed to it.
